Customer Review: CUTS LIKE BUTTER
Summary: 5 Stars

I PURCHASED THIS SAW LOCAL FOR A GREAT PRICE HUNDRED OF DOLLARS CHEAPER BECAUSE THE RIGHT TILT SAW ARE BEING PHASED OUT UP GRADED FROM A JET CONTRATER SAW WICH WASW A GREAT SAW BUT I NEED A MORE POWER. THE CAME TO MY LOCAL DEALER SO I HAD TO PICK IT UP ITS A VERY HEAVY SAW BUT MY CHEVY 2500 HD DID NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEM GETTING IT HOME MY SON AND A COUPLE OF FRIED GOT THE SAW OFF WITH OUT ANY PROBLEM. THE SAW WENT TOGETHER WITHOUT ANY PROMBLEM UNTIL I WENT TO PUT THE TABLE BOARD ON AND IT WAS NOT THERE THEY FORGOT TO SHIP IT SO I CALLED DELTA AFTER TWENTY MINUTE ON THE PHONE THEY WAITING TO TALK TO SOMEONE THEY SAID THEY WOULD SHIP WON OUT TO ME. I RIPPED SOM 8/4 MAPLE AND IT CUT IT LIKE BUTTER I WOULD BY IT AGAIN BUT I DON'T THINK I WILL EVER HAVE TO BY ANOTHER SAW

Customer Review: Great Saw
Summary: 5 Stars

I got a good price on the saw after Amazon beat another store's price. I was worried about the delivery, but all of the packages were in great shape. The saw is great, no problems. Some folks complain about the mitre gauge and the blade guard. I was well aware of their limitations when I bought the saw. There are plenty of aftermarket items to help both of those problems. This is a saw I will have for the rest of my life.

Customer Review: fence problem
Summary: 4 Stars

the fence came with the mounting hole on the front rail mis-alligned. it took a month to get the correct front rail, delta back ordered the rail but thanks to amazon's great customer service (the reason i buy here) they sent a complete rail replacement. it was very disappointing to spent $1800.00 and have to go thru the ordeal and not use the saw for a month. wake up delta.

i noticed another review with much the same problem

Customer Review: Check out Powermatic or Jet before you order a Unisaw
Summary: 3 Stars

Years ago I waited in line for over an hour to meet Norm Abrams at the Chicago Flower Show. I got 2 autographed photos from him and a chance to ask him what tools he recommended. He recommended ONLY ONE tool and that was the right tilt Unisaw. I told him I didn't have $1,800 and he said to buy a used one because they never wear out. From that moment on I knew that some day I would have a right tilt Unisaw in my home shop. As usual, Amazon.com had a fantastic deal with free shipping and many free accessories on a pre X-5 Unisaw. Well, what turned out to be a great deal has mostly been a big let down. The angle iron that supports the square tube of my Biesemeyer fence sits too low allowing the Biesemeyer fence to float above the square tube. It actually wobbles side to side if it is unlocked. Looks like the bolt holes were drilled incorrectly. I was told to "enlarge the holes a little" so I could raise the front rail up a 16th or so. The 2 cast extension wings are both warped-switching sides didn't help. My Biesemeyer fence now has a chip in the plastic laminate where it caught when I slid it from the center table onto the cast iron extension wing. The laminated table had to be planned down because the corners were not square. I had to pound down long brads that poked through the corners back into the wood so it would fit flush against the angle iron. The laminated table seems flat enough but there is another gap from the table to the cast iron extension wing. I waited on hold with Delta for 25 minutes before they said there was no way I could have this many problems. BELIEVE ME these are all common problems with current production Unisaws. When I told them my Biesemeyer fence had a chip in the laminate because it hooked on the uneven wing/table joint, Delta told me to "just file down the extension wing if it sticks up." I told them they should have done it when they made it! The plastic computer designed cover they raved about being so efficient at funneling dust away often falls off when you slide the miter gauge into it for storage. If it falls off while your using the saw (happened to me twice!)you receive an instant blast of saw dust in your eyes-wear UNVENTED safety goggles so you can keep your eyes open when your fingers are passing by the blade! Their free mobile base runs aground on my uneven garage floor. I tugged hard on the saw and it came off the base! Watch out as the top heavy saw is difficult to get back on by yourself once it pulls off the mobile base. I'm lucky I didn't crack off the 2 delicate thin legs that support the laminated table. The 3hp motor seems the perfect choice for this saw. The magnetic on/off switch is nice but feels cheap. The sheet metal base is too weak and flexes. Both warped extension wings need machining to sit flush with the center table. Their miter gauge is junk. I'm certain the lady from Delta who answered my questions had NEVER seen a Unisaw before as she had NO idea what I was describing even though both of us had diagrams in front of us. I could understand problems like this happening with a $99 Chinese made saw from Sears but not one that costs $1,800. If this saw was just machined correctly it would have been my dream saw. Unfortunately this experience with Delta and their "take it or leave it" attitude has left me cold. I have one of their 3hp shapers (also $1,800) and their 1hp USA made band saw. Neither is awesome but they work good. I'm sure my Unisaw will be perfect after I spend MANY hours working on it. It cuts like butter and I'm still glad I went with a 240 volt saw. Hey, just make sure you know what your getting yourself into with a Unisaw-it is NOT a plug and play device. The Powermatic doesn't look that expensive now.

Customer Review: Not what I thougt I was buying
Summary: 1 Stars

I thought I was buying my dream saw. No way, I have spent almost the price of the saw to bring it up to par.

The blade guard and splitter both are garbage. The miter guage is a throw away, it has no place in my shop.

I have refined the saw at a high expense and have to say I am very happy but broke.
